I have consecutive beams I must penetrate with a 4" main through a 5" hole in the steel beam. I do not have clearance, so I have provided flexible couplings on both sides of the beam. First question is do I need to provide clearance; they are consecutive holes? Next question, is if I do need clearance and I use flex couplings because I don't have the clearance necessary, do I have to add additional lateral bracing because of the flexible couplings? The hole is not used to support the pipe, there will be hangers to the tops of the steel I-beams.
