I just got through doing a room with 15 ft high racks that can be moved side-to-side for access. Similar to a medical records storage system. In-rack sprinklers were not an option. I based the design on multiple row rack storage and used a CMSA sprinkler. There is no realistic way to provide sprinklers in or under a moving object.
Since they are moveable, they should fall under 9.5.5.3.2 (2019 edition). Your situation sounds like it does create a space for a shielded fire so that may need to be taken into consideration in the ceiling design.
