We have a project that is a warehouse building protected with ESFR sprinkler heads, the warehouse area has 6'x6' skylights spaces about 50' apart. The skylights is only about 8" above the metal deck of the warehouse ceiling. The ESFR heads are spaced 10'x10' with the skylight directly in the middle of the lines.
We are wondering if we need to provide protection in these skylights, common sense says the size and depth would not delay the operation of the sprinkler heads, so no heads should be required. Code says skylights over 32 ft² require sprinkler protection. If we need to protect the skylight do we use an ESFR heads or can you use a Q.R. standard spray heads. The ESFR head if installed would stick below the plane on the warehouse ceiling and would now be too close to the other heads and would cold solder them. Comments, ideas. We are using NFPA #13 2013ed. Thank You James Crawford Phaser Fire Protection Ltd.
