Hi Folks, We proposed the following draft which provide the mechanism called Compressed SRv6 Network Programming for SRv6 compression: https://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-li-spring-compressed-srv6-np-01.txt
The relationship between G-SRv6 and C-SRv6 is explained as follows: - For G-SRv6, it provides solutions for more scenarios besides SRv6 compression. For SRv6 compression, it provides the complete solutions on the basis of encapsulating Compressed SRv6 SIDs and normal SRv6 SIDs in any order in the enhanced SRH called G-SRH. - For C-SRv6, it provides a light solution for SRv6 compression. That is, it introduces the protocol extensions as less as possible and it is only used for compression which only encapsulate the compressed SRv6 SID in the SRH. It can also be seen a special case of G-SRv6 for SRv6 compression. Until now we think there are requirements for both solutions and we will promote them together. Your comments are welcome. However, the overhead introduced by SRH may be a challenge for existing hardware, which may influence on the forwarding performance and the payload efficiency. This document defines a compressed SRv6 network programming mechanism in order to reduce the overhead of SRv6 by introducing the Compressed Segment Identifier (C-SID) and the Compressed SRH (C-SRH). The C-SRH can be a new Routing Header or an enhancement of SRH. Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.
