I figured out that I can use the only:: directive to add a date to the end
of my individual files. I used the container:: directive from this thread
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/sphinx-users/Su9KJQ1PEcA> so that
I could style the text in css.
.. only:: html
.. container:: last-update
last update: |today|
I also made this a separate file that I will add to the end of each file by
using include:: so that I can modify it in one location instead of many.
