This difficulty seems to still be there with the 1.4b1 release.

Oh, sorry. We do not intend to make the 3rd party domains incompatible. 
It's bug of Sphinx.

Now, I add a fix for this to 1.4-release branch. It works fine with 
phpdomain.
Could you check it please?
