>From what I have read, we don't meed to move up on perl (perl5.8x) until SA-2.70 is released. But, Douglas, your suggestion to clean out the white list DB seems to have fixed it for now. It had grown to just short of 2MB, which I didn't think was all that large. The errors are gone and the message thru-put time has dropped back to 1 sec or less for over 30 secs....
