We have that exact same thing. works a treat. At first I was instructed to use amavis or whatever it's called. I tried that and got very frustrated with it.
I then stumbled across MailScanner which has support for both SpamAssassin and an anti-virus scanner. it's dead easy to install. http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/ it modifies sendmail a little so you have two instances of sendmail running, an incoming, outgoing. i've got it running on about 4 machines with no dramas yet... you can use fprot as your virus scanner if you wish, or simply do some blocking of potential bad attachments as well. -----Original Message----- From: Pankaj [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2004 2:52 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [SAtalk] setting up spamassassin on Gateway server (MX) I am using sendmail 8.12.10 under Redhat Linux platform 8.1 >From: Chris Santerre >To: "'Pankaj Shrestha'" , [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: RE: [SAtalk] setting up spamassassin on Gateway server (MX) >Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 10:57:30 -0500 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from mr04.conversent.net ([155.212.2.21]) by mc7-f14.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6824); Tue, 13 Jan 2004 07:52:01 -0800 >Received: from mo-nt1.merchantsoverseas.com (host194.204.17.79.conversent.net [204.17.79.194])by mr04.conversent.net (8.12.8p2/8.12.9) with ESMTP id i0DFq0ec021927for ; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 10:52:00 -0500 (EST)(envelope-from [EMAIL PROTECTED]) >Received: by internal.merchantsoverseas.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19)id ; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 10:57:31 -0500 >X-Message-Info: JGTYoYF78jF7PeVvU0Opj/f7SoK9Ba6r >Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) >Return-Path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 13 Jan 2004 15:52:01.0382 (UTC) FILETIME=[2EE63060:01C3D9ED] > >What MTA are you running on the MX server? > >-----Original Message----- >From: Pankaj Shrestha [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 1:28 AM >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [SAtalk] setting up spamassassin on Gateway server (MX) > > > >Dear all, > > I have a MX server that simply accepts the mails and forwards all the >mails to the corresponding internal servers. > > I have been able to install and run properly Spamassassin in our >internal servers.
