I'm confused here. I have just installed Spamassassin on the server. I had
a folder with a few spams I'd recieved and wanted to feed them to sa-learn
so it would recognise these types of email as spam. But when I run
sa-learn --spam --mbox spamdump it says learned from 0 messages (3
messages scanned).

Considering I have NEVER fed these messages to spamassassin, I thought
something was funny. I tried --forget and then --spam, I tried --ham then
--spam, nothing made it learn the messages as either spam or ham.

My local.cf is rather simple:

more_spam_to <suppressed>
use_bayes 1
bayes_path /etc/spamassassin/bayes

I also looked in the /etc/spamassassin directory. It's empty. I even made
sure it had 777 permissions, still empty. Does not matter if I run
sa-learn as root or a normal user. Always learned from 0 messages. I
logged into a friend's machine who also uses spamassassin, piped the same
message mbox file to sa-learn there, it said learned from 3 messages (3
messages scanned).

Why won't my spamassassin learn?
