In the last 6 months or so, our spam volume has tripled as I am sure it has for many of you. For the month of November, we topped out at over 110,000 spam emails into the company (yea for us?). 80,000+ were outright /dev/null'd for the obvious potty language, appendage enhancement, etc, etc. and SA then tagged another 30,000+ as probable spam. At around 10 seconds of employee time wasted per spam, we saved ~300 labor-hours in November.
One year ago, I took a clunker of a P-III/450 and installed a strange and mystical Operating System called Linux. Open Source opened my eyes, and showed me the light to a better way. Regular folk wrote FAQ's, and How-to's, and Recipes, the bread crumbs of Open Source, so those who would follow could also find their way. Others added their own special ingredients - a pinch of backhair, a dash of weeds, a handful of popcorn. The awesome powers of Big Huge Evil were summoned. The Spammers trembled. And it was good.
