It has to do with expiry.  Each time a message is scanned by the Bayes
system, the journal gets a list of the tokens and an atime update.
To avoid the file getting too big, SA will (based on file size) sync
the db with the atimes in the journal.

The atimes are only useful for expiry, hence the "nothing to do with
learning" comment.  For expiry, the atimes specify the last time the
token was seen (based on received time), and therefore allows LRU expiry
to occur as per the sa-learn docs.
