Does Razor and DCC do a direct lookup to same database on the internet every time SA scans a message? Or its storing that database localy somehow.
I know that razor checks it's server each time a message is scanned. Razor never stores a database locally, and it can't because that database contains actual real emails, not just hashes...
Realisticaly in the case of razor you'd have to process a VERY insane amount of email, way over a million a day, to make downloading the database practical in terms of bandwidth. The razor database is going to be absolutely huge in size.
Also, razor and DCC are inherently dynamic in nature.. changing by the minute, not by the day. So, unlike a DNSBL, downloading the database requires very frequent update and refresh.
DCC does have the ability to do a local database which receives "floods" from other servers. DCC recommends a local database at a level of 100,000 messages a day or more. If you process less mail than that, setting up a local database wastes bandwidth, as the floods are pretty large (>10mb/day).
However, the DCC database only stores hashes, so it's smaller and easier to copy around than the razor database, making this local database concept possible.
