I had exactly the same problem. I am building a new server on RH9 and will migrate from RH8. I copied over the Makefile from the previous RH8 install, typed make and it compiled although I was leery of it. I ran make test which was 100% successful, installed, but not on-line yet. Wasn't able to understand why perl generated such a botched-up Makefile, so I tabled it as an exercise for my tidy-up phase.
