Working for a medium size ISP I must say that trojaned, or open relay boxes on our DSL circuits is one of this biggest problems we face. We shut down 1-5 customers every day for these reasons. Being rather small, we must do this, or the world, spamcop, and other RBL's will simply block our mail. This is the only reason we have been able to get management to go along with this, as customers who get shut down are usually not very happy, and cancel their service at about at 50% rate (the discussion of the stupidity of that could go on and on) The problem is, the larger ISP's have no incentive to shut down their customers (at risk of losing them) since no small/medium ISP will start blocking any major provider any time soon, because this would inevitably mean that grandma at AOL would not be able to send our customers mail, resulting in more loss of customers. So it seems to me that until the major ISP's take some serious action, the smaller ones will be caught in the middle.
