Hi,

I just installed spamassassin 2.60 (via qmailtoaster.org RPM) on a brand
new
RH9 system. Sys config: 2.8Ghz 512M RAM.

I have spamd running as a daemon with calls to spamc via
.qmail-default files from a vpopmail domains subdir. The contents of
the .qmail-default files is like:

| /var/qmail/bin/preline /usr/bin/spamc -f -u [EMAIL PROTECTED] |
/users/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' [EMAIL PROTECTED]

spamd starts up ok, but the minute an email is sent through the MTA,
calling spamc, spamd jumps to the top of the process table (via 'top')
with memory usage in the 75%-95% range. The system slows to a crawl
and within a minute crashes with "Out of memory" in the system logs,
requiring a hard reboot (and subsequent disk checks! ouch!).

I've tried a couple of things so far I learned from the qmailtoaster.org
list:

1) Changed LANG=en_US in /etc/sysconfig/i18n
   (per SA FAQ 4.6)

2) Installed perl-Time-HiRes-1.38-4 RPM

Though, neither has helped the problem.

I've read in the archives of people having memory issues with spamd and
usually going to the spamc/spamd paradigm fixes it, yet I'm already
there
and having these problems. Also, all of the memory related issues I've
seen in the archives say that memory is affected slowly over time.
In my case it crashes the system consistently within a minute from a
single
e-mail.

Can anyone offer any guidance here?

Thanks,
David
