I'm a complete newcommer to SpamAssassin and I've been a list-member only since Friday, so please go easy on me if I'm breaking any list protocols. I'm running the DirectAdmin Control Panel (http://www.directadmin.com/) and have set up their SpamAssassin installation according to their instructions.
It doesn't work properly and it appears as if no-one at DirectAdmin understands it; when I wrote for advice I got a reply about training it first. But I know enough about SpamAssassin to know the headers show it isn't performing any of it's tests. For example, every incoming email I get does have the following headers (this is an example from one of my incoming emails, with the actual email address and third-party identification obscured): <snip> Received: from mail by da1.ns-one.net with spam-scanned (Exim 3.36 #1) id 1A6WQs-0006GZ-00 for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Mon, 06 Oct 2003 07:33:57 -0700 Received: from [216.220.10.1] (helo=ns1.example.com) by da1.ns-one.net with esmtp (Exim 3.36 #1) id 1A6WQs-0006GW-00 for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Mon, 06 Oct 2003 07:33:54 -0700 </snip> But none of them have any of the SpamAssassin headers (as I see in the mail through this list). <snip> X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) X-Spam-Report: -1.0/5.0 Spam Filtering performed by sourceforge.net. See http://spamassassin.org/tag/ for more details. Report problems to https://sf.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=1&atid=200001 IN_REP_TO (-0.5 points) Has a In-Reply-To header USER_AGENT_PINE (0.0 points) Message-Id indicates a non-spam MUA (Pine) QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT (-0.5 points) BODY: Contains what looks like a quoted email text </snip> I'm using Exim 3.36, and SpamAssassin version 2.55, as supplied by DirectAdmin. The instructions from DirectAdmin said to use the configuration program at: http://www.yrex.com/spam/spamconfig.php and to write the file to: /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf Which is what I did. I get the results I show in the first snippet above, but nothing else. Can you give me an idea of what I did wrong? I'm not posting the local.cf or the exim config file to this list; I'm not sure if it's allowed or not, but I'll be happy to do so if necessary for anyone to help me. It's become clear to me that the DirectAdmin folk don't know anything at all about SpamAssassin and my request for help to their support forum has gotten me no replies from anyone, so I hope someone here can help me. I have a DirectAdmin test system I can offer for anyone to look at who might be interested in helping. Thanks in advance for any of your thoughts. Jeff -- Jeff Lasman, nobaloney.net, P. O.
