For whatever reason, the Subject: line is considered part of the message body in SA's processing.
<Jaw drops. Mind boggles> So, you mean all those rules I've been testing, where I do a body version and then a SUBJ_ version... I didn't have to? Argh!
The only logic I can see in that is in allowing you to define body rules for various obfuscated words or letters, without having to define separate rules for both body and subject- which both often contain similar obfuscation or phrases. :/
Ummm... yeah! Like that.
Thanks for letting me know about this. I wish I'd known sooner.
Am I just blind, or is this completely undocumented in the Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf docs? Looking at http://www.spamassassin.org/doc/Mail_SpamAssassin_Conf.html, I see the following:
body SYMBOLIC_TEST_NAME /pattern/modifiers Define a body pattern test. pattern is a Perl regular expression.
The 'body' in this case is the textual parts of the message body; any non-text MIME parts are stripped, and the message decoded from Quoted-Printable or Base-64-encoded format if necessary. All HTML tags and line breaks will be removed before matching.
This doesn't suggest to me that the Subject: is included. Perhaps the doco could be updated to reflect this?
