After sending a mail to myself with the GTUBE string, I find that my

Thus, although the GTUBE test works fine, it has the side effect that

I figured out that entering "echo 'From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]' | spamassassin
-RD" fixes the problem. However, this may be a bit subtle for new
SpamAssassin and AWL users.

Would it be fairly simple to have messages with GTUBE not contribute to
the AWL, given that GTUBE is not a reliable indicator of future spam
from an address?

Well, since GTUBE is only sent for testing, why not just erase your own AWL entry after you send the GTUBE.

spamassassin [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Making the AWL aware of the GTUBE rule is a pretty ugly hack in the code, and doesn't serve much practical purpose that isn't readily corrected.

Besides, encountering this has taught you an important lesson about how the AWL behaves when extremely high scoring mails pass by. For example ALL_SPAM_TO [EMAIL PROTECTED] can cause similar problems but in the opposite direction.
