Tim...yes. I had an almost identical problem. Two or three users suddenly started getting a lot more spam and the headers indeed showed no SA checks. I too reverted back to 2.55.
Try rc2, thats probably the DNS lookup error that caused the scanning of the whole message to fail if an RBL check timed out....
