You should almost never need to reboot a Un*x box to install software, and I'm not aware of any reasons why you should need to do this for SpamAssassin. You don't give enough information to answer your implied question, which is "what do I need to do to get SA to start checking my mail?". To answer this we need to know exactly how you're trying to integrate it into your mail system. What MTA - sendmail, qmail, postfix, exim, something else? Are you using spamassassin directly, or a spamc/spamd combination? Are you trying to do it via procmail? Is this sendmail using a milter? ....
