It looks like something wierd with Sourceforge (which handles the
main www and spamassassin.org sites to reduce load).
I can't ssh into shell1.sourceforge.net at all, getting

: jm 1000...; ssh -v [EMAIL PROTECTED]
OpenSSH_3.5p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090701f
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config

debug1: Rhosts Authentication disabled, originating port will not be trusted.
debug1: ssh_connect: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to shell1.sourceforge.net [66.35.250.208] port 22.
debug1: Connection established.
debug1: identity file /home/jm/.ssh/identity type 0

debug1: identity file /home/jm/.ssh/id_dsa type 2
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

It seems to have started doing this around Sat Aug 23 17:06:48 GMT 2003.

I've opened a support tracker at:
