Hi

I wrote one email to the list that spamassassin 2.41 was installed at one of our Cobalt raq4r server. And i found few mails are not properly filtered. So to upgrade and test i installed the 2.41 version at my test server (redhat 8.0 ) ...

In my test server i installed first the spamassassin 2.41 version then i tested. It was working ...I started *spamd* as *root*. I did not mention any particular user... The option i selected in spamd is as follows:
-d -c -a  -D [ same option i took in the cobalt server ]
Here -D option i took for the debugging only. But one thing i noticed in the log file it is as follows:
________________________________________________
open of AWL file failed: Cannot create tmp lockfile //.spamassassin/auto-whitelist.lock
________________________________________________

Moreove i was seeing that under ~user the .spamassassing file is not being created.. I created then manually... And *requoired hit 7. But somehow i am seeing the hit score is taken as *5*. That means the *user_prefs* file under user is not being considered....
Then i copied the /usr/share/spamassassin/* and /etc/mail/spamassassin/* to diff place with *tar*.

Then installed the version 2.55... (Required modules also i installed) - restarted the *spamd*.  Now i just do a test with spamassisn -t <input-spam.txt >out-spam.txt , i saw that the output is giving correct. Spam catch 6+

Then i sent mail to one user to another user with the same file as attachment.
But it is showing *clear message*.  Morever i purposely chnge the /etc/mail/spamassassin/10_misc.cf file and make the *required_hits  6* and change the ~user/.spamassassin/user_prefs file made the *required_hits 7*

But surprising - the log file is not cathching any *spam* and it is showing required hits as *5* .. How come it is taking the *required hit* as 5?

Can anyone give me any hints - where i am making wrong - did i make any mistake in the installation? But the installation is very simple so i think installation wise i did not make any mistake. But i have some doubt of file copying etc ...Moreover from where the default hits parameter is being accepted ... i am confused here...

Thanks in advance.
