Well, I setup my user as vscan with the home directory of /var/amavis

[EMAIL PROTECTED] bird]# getent passwd vscan
vscan:x:501:502::/var/amavis:/bin/bash

[EMAIL PROTECTED] bird]# ls -lad /var/amavis/
drwxr-x---    5 vscan    vscan        4096 Jul 29 17:36 /var/amavis/

drwx------ 2 vscan vscan 4096 Jul 29 16:55 /var/amavis/.spamassassin/

Everything should be correct. I followed the directions as specified. As for my version: SpamAssassin version 2.55

Can someone explain to me why this is and what is the recommend method?

Hint: As which user is amavisd running and where does 'getent passwd that-user' tell you his home directory is? Who is the owner of, and what are the permissions on, that directory? (probably /var/amavis/.spamassassin/, but ...)

Incidentally, no Bayes database being created. Are you really using such an old SA version?
