It might work if you update IO::Socket::INET to the newest version; the problem is, that the socket takes too long to be shut down so that when spamd tries to restart, it is still in use and spamd fails. OTOH does spamd 2.60 support now UNIX domain sockets, so if you connect only locally you could try that which should also be more efficient.
