Why do you measure time in distance?  (people measure distance by time,
but I don't think you can do the reverse.)

anyway, the problem is going to be timeout related, be it a network check,
bayes lock file, etc.

I would run with -D and see what debug says.  you could also try -L and
see if it's a network-related issue.
