if it were a 'patch' upgrade, it would be 2.56.  Upgrades are never
required, but always recommended.


You didn't actually ask if it was released yet, but I'll tell you
anyway:  No, not yet.  There are pre-release versions available (not to
be confused with release candidate versions) which are being used right
now by various people to generate statistics for the rules which will
end up generating the scores for 2.60-final.

It'll be at least another 2-3 weeks for the score generation procedure
to finish, and then we'll probably have a week of testing 2.60 release
candidates before the actual release.
