Presumably procmail calls spamc?  If so, then your procmail log (if you
set $LOGFILE in your .procmailrc) would be more useful than the syslogs.
You don't have to set $VERBOSE; errors will get logged there.

If you don't have a procmail log, then you'll never know what the
problem was.  Suggest you start one.
