I am running a network with about 40 exchange servers. We have a linux server in front with SA, and Razor2.
I now want to activate the whole thing but I came across some pratical issues. Here they are:
1. I have a lot of email -adresses from users that are long gone, but they recive (a lot) of spam. I planned to automatically report there incoming mail to Razor, and if they recieve mail that is not marked by SA or Razor, then let them be "learned" as spam. Is this the right thing to do?
No. Razor asks that only messages that are verified as spam by a human being be submitted to the razor database. Otherwise the whole concept is useless. Automatically sa-learning on email addresses which used to be valid but now aren't also is a bad idea, you should only consider doing that on a "honeypot" address that has *never* been a valid address.
2. Sold I forward the (perhaps) spam as is to all the users?(So that they can create their own rules) Or should I modify the mails: Make the spam attachment, and/or make annotation to it? ( I have the tools for that)
3. Should I let it up to the users to create the rules? Or should the system-admins make them for the users?
Well this is really up to you, as you're asking us to define your policy for you.... but in general, give your users freedom of control, don't lock them into one thing or another. Give users the option to set their own thresholds and whether their spam is quarantined or sent through. (I use an imap folder per user for those who choose quarantine)
Regards, Simon
