It's now *much* more difficult for spammers to get their crap to the public. Their return is really small. Most spammers won't see more than 75-100K yearly...and if they live in California, that's NOT a ton! > I'm all for going the political route when it comes to most things, but > what we need to combat spam is a technical solution, not a legal one. > As you've pointed out, a political route is usually a useless route. What it boils down to is more regulations, more red-tape, and more of OUR money going to pay for the crap! Bleeding the stone dry. > There's no (none, zip, nada) legal solution that will even make a dent > in the volume of spam flowing around the 'net. > I'd love to have something as simple as an added tag in the header; something like "X-ADVERT" or something. Most lay-people won't even see it BUT it's easy to filter. Could you imagine how easy spam filtering would be if ALL spam had that header tag? Of course, enforcing it is always the problem, like you said. > The only thing that a > bunch of useless laws will accomplish is generating some good PR for the > politicians while wasting taxpayer dollars. > Ah, you are as cynical as I am :) > Frankly, I'd rather see that > money being spent on homeland security. > Careful what you wish for. Homeland security, if taken too far, will translate to control. As Jefferson said, "the natural way of things is for government to advance and liberty to retreat".
