Greetings,

First let me apologize if this has been covered before but for the last
several days I have been unable to search the arcchives for this list (the
search allways times out).

That said... I've been using spamassassin (currently 2.31) for a long time
now on an old PII-266 under a sort-of Redhat 6.X system (with perl 5.6.1)
without problems, a typical 4k message cleaned in <1 sec. and I can't find
anything in the logs greater than 3 seconds.

Over the last several days I've been experimenting with stock RH 8.0 (perl
5.8.0-55, spamassassin 2.31-16 - both came with the distribution) in
preparation for moving to it, and am getting truly horrible performance from
spamassassin (spamc/spamd invoked from procmail). For example it took 8
seconds to clean the 3k "Welcome to the "Spamassassin-talk" mailing list"
message from this list. And picking a random recent maillog entry: a 50k
message took 72 seconds (and I've watched, this is at 100% CPU). I can't use
this. I have tried setting LANG=en_US as recommended at
http://spamassassin.org/dist/INSTALL but it didn't help. I see that there
are many more entries in /usr/share/spamassassin/ in the old 2.31 install -
is this the problem? Or is it something else?

I'd really appreciate any help anyone might be able to offer.

Thanks,
Mark
