There has been a friendly debate about the extra burden placed on servers
and network connections by large email attachments. Resources can be scaled
up to accommodate the changing needs of users. Equipment and software is
usually cheaper than human time.

Take the 100 messages a day for this list alone, and figure out how much is
junk or requires additional human effort just to read the message. Digital
signatures, encryption, and .TXT attachment instead of writing messages
within the body of an email. (1) These take additional human effort to open
the attachments or accept the signature key....I am deleting these message
more often than reading them. (2) The signatures, and random
thoughts/quotes take up bandwidth and message space. En masse, figure
25-50% junk for each message). (3) Security precautions like
encrypting/signing messages in a public forum with thousands of messages is
a bit presumptious. Why do I want your key? I'd sooner toss those
posts...two lines of reply and a dozen lines of signatures and quotes.

Before the flames start, I'm not trolling for responses here. I'm just
seeing a lot of admins complaining about "ignorance" on the part of their
wasteful users. Physician, heal thyself!
