Well I actually can read code, but it doesn't seem needed per Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf, I should just be able to add a phrase in local.cf. Unless I completely am missunderstanding the docs, I don't have to edit anything other then a line in my local.cf. > I'll tell you right off those scores do NOT work the way you > think, they > are explicitly NOT the score assigned to the email in determining > spam/nonspam. Well I figured it wasn't going to give it 30000+ points! >It's also not even a remotely linear function. > Really high > spam_phrases scores actually don't add as many points to an > emails spam > score as more "mid-range" spam_phrases scores do. > > The whole spam_phrases system is deprecated in the 2.50 > series.. the Bayes > tokenizer does the same thing and does it much better. > > > Now If you really want to do something as horribly stupid as > assign 5.0 > points to a phrase commonly used in nonspam messages the best > way is to > write a custom body rule: Beauty of OPen source. What may show in nospam for your company may be purely spam for mine. I can assure you that this will never show up in a legite email here. I also DO NOT DELETE anything. SO I would catch it and adjust accordingly if ever needed. > > body LOCAL_FP_PRONE_HERBAL_MEDICINE /\bherbal medicine\b/i > score LOCAL_FP_PRONE_HERBAL_MEDICINE 5.0 > I'm trying to use what rules are already running. I've heard that adding additional body rules take longer to proccess. (Not a lot of time in the grand scheme of things, but I"m trying to use the best method.) Spamphrase is already there and already running. According to the docs this should be easy to use. > Rules like that should go into your /etc/mail/local.cf or > ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs. I never said I was going to edit the inner workings of SA. > > But I'll warn you, that a rule like that is quite frankly > horribly stupid > to put in to a production SA system, unless you enjoy false > positives or > subscribe to absolutely no mailing lists. > Um, whitelist the mailing lists? I seriously doubt that my company would ever have a single legit email with this phrase in it. And as said before, it would be caught and adjusted. So are you saying that simply adding : spamphrase 500 herbal medicine into my local.cf file will NOT work? I would have to have edited the SA rules themselves? (Not that I'm going to.) Maybe I am reading it wrong. Maybe this line is for adjusting scores of already entered phrases, and not adding new ones? I'm well aware that Bayes handles this better right now. That wasn't my question :) Thanks. Chris > > At 04:15 PM 3/25/2003 -0500, Chris Santerre wrote: > >Ok no wonder I was confused!
