Actually, someone pointed out the missing piece I had overlooked: the spamass-milter bit. After creating a spamass-milter.sh in /usr/local/etc/rc.d it appears to be working. Now to bang on it a while. In hindsight, I couldn't see where that socket path meshed with anything. Now I know, it meshes with the command line params of spamass-milter.
