Other people have such a problem with exim, notably when fetching their mail with fetchmail : by default too much local deliveries are done, so a lot of spamassassin/spamd are running. postfix limits the number of simultaneous deliveries to 2 by default. Maybe sendmail have such a parameter anywhere...
