The goal of this project is to provide a large repository of spam that can be used by researchers and tool developers. In the past, there were a few small personal spam archives that were used. There was no large set of spam that could be used to test new anti-spam algorithms. Thus, developers could not sufficiently test their techniques across a range of messages. Also, the lack of a "standard" sample of spam made it difficult to effectively benchmark anti-spam tools."

Consider this -- if this were a front for a bunch on enterprising spammers,
it might be a wonderful source of __valid__ addresses of all the poor folks
who send in their spam!

It could happen... :-)

Good thought!

But wouldn't this make a great spamtrap?

send mail from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to spamarchive.org.
and everything sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] gets immediately reported to razor and rbls.

Sure, you might get some valid addresses, but the counter-attack is that your spam will be identified as such just as soon as you hit a honeypot. Might make for a good counter-attack.
