I believe phplot requires GD support in PHP.  I use Debian's
Unstable/Sid distribution, and the php4 package had GD added in (or I
installed another php4 package, I can't remember off-hand).  If you
compiled php from source, I would recompile with the GD option.  If you
use RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, etc, I would look for a php-gd or similar
RPM.  Check out
