The problems that I was experiencing with spamd dying in the 2.42 release seems to have indeed been fixed with the release of 2.43. I upgraded to 2.43 from 2.41 which I had rolled back to as an interim solution and it has been running fine, rock solidish ;), on both of the mailservers (postfix + sendmail) i.e. no daemon failures. I would like to thank those involved for such a quick fix to this problem and to the other users who let me know that they too had been experiencing a similar problem.
