I had that problem too. I put on my perl thinking hat, and I traced it back to a problem with a function call to the line of code that tries to pull the date off of the syslog. It seems that the call didn't like the entire line, so I fed it a substring of the line. This made the flat line go away for me. I can give you exact version numbers and line numbers if you'd like.
