My advice is to always, always backup your config files before making any
changes - that goes for all software. I keep off-site backups of all of my
config files, just in case the box dies or there's a fire, flood,
earthquake, locust swarm, etc. I don't want to have to re-configure all the
software I've tweaked...

As for whether or not SA will overwrite your changes, this is only a guess,
but I think it'll leave your local files alone (/etc/mail/spamassassin/*).
If you've made changes to /usr/share/spamassassin/*, you'll surely want to
make backups of your changes (and put them in local.cf instead!).

| Do these instructions hold true for upgrades also? I'm running
| SA 2.11 on my Cobalt Qube, but I'm thinking it could only benefit
| to upgrade to 2.42 when released. Does the installer have the
| "intelligence" to not overwrite my config file tweaks, or should
| I be doubly-sure they're backed up? Anything to be espicially
| mindful of while attempting to upgrade?
| I've got a good thing here with SA 2.11, I fear breaking it while
| striving to make it better.
|
| Thanks,
| Steve.
