So have I. So have a lot of people. Rather than reinvent the wheel and have to do it all over again for the next virus du jour, just install an antivirus program that is made for the job and comes with frequent updates. I use f-prot, which has a linux version free for individual use and can be updated via a cron job. I have mimedefang call it and SpamAssassin. There are other, similar solutions.
