Since you mentioned in another message that you're using Sendmail, I'd go with a Sendmail + milter based solution in that situation. The advantage is that processing is done only once per message, rather than once per recipient, and you don't need to do any MTA "sandwiching." I use MIMEDefang (http://www.roaringpenguin.com/mimedefang/) and it works great.
