In case anyone is interested, my persistent Perl daemonizer, PPerl, now
works with SpamAssassin. It's an alternative to spamc/spamd, and runs
directly with /usr/bin/spamassassin, rather than spamd.

   http://search.cpan.org/search?dist=PPerl

(you need at least version 0.10 - which should be there once CPAN mirrors)

Why might you want to use it?

1) If you want to use Unix sockets, rather than TCP/IP.

2) If you don't want to have to worry about starting spamd - PPerl runs
the daemon automatically if it isn't started.

3) Just for fun. Something new to play with.

Not massively tested yet, but in testing now here at MessageLabs.

To use it for spamassassin, either change your #! line to
/usr/bin/pperl, or call /usr/bin/spamassassin with /usr/bin/pperl directly.

If you try it, do let me know how it goes.

Matt.
