Justin,

| I installed successfully SA with amavisd through the spamproxy module.
| I understand that this is a new script and is not quite stable, so my
| question is: Can I setup SA without the spamproxy and be on the safe side
| in terms of stability and security?

Yes, you can use amavisd-new instead of both amavisd and spamproxy.
It does its of direct interfacing with SA. As far as stability,
safety against mail loss, and speed is concerned, this is a superior
solution (see: http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/ )

The setup with Postfix is described in README.postfix at the above URL.

| I'm running Postfix snapshot-20020115 with MySQL & Cyrus 2.1.3
| All user's prefs & passwords are stored in MySQL, so I think
| procmail will not be a good solution...
|
| Any comments on seting it up correctly are welcome.

The plan for the next release (end of June probably) of amavisd-new
is to support SQL access for certain per-user settings. For the moment
you can use two lookup methods (described in README.lookups),
e.g. to request spam delivery for certain users or subdomains.

  Mark
