I just tried, through CPAN, 'install Mail::SpamAssassin' with
the firewall off and I got the same problems (spamd, spamd_port,
spamd_stop tests fail). I didn't try installing it. This is a
pretty vanilla system. SpamAssassin was one of the first things
I tried to install; the only other thing that I can think of
that I installed are the OS X Developer Tools.

I had trouble installing CPAN before (upgrading so it would stop
nagging). It was fine after I turned off the firewall. But
there's no change to the SpamAssassin stuff.

Based on the test output and symptoms I mailed earlier, is there
a way to manually fix what's wrong with the 2.2 install? I don't
know much about Perl, or how it gets access to resources at
runtime (which seems to be the problem). When SpamAssassin says
"SPAM: (no report template found)," what is it looking for,
where should it be, and what can I do to make sure that it can
find it?

And again, 1.4 installs fine, but its performance is
frustrating. I missed some of the digests because SpamAssassin
1.4 was marking the digest mails as spam :P
