I am trying to run SpamAssassin with MailScanner and Exim, which must be a
common scenario

When I start it up, I get the error message
mkdir /root/.spamassassin: Permission denied at
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/Mail/SpamAssassin.pm line 614

This is presumably because MailScanner is set to run as mail.mail

Making /root writeable by mail.mail allows SpamAssassin to run, but has
unacceptable
security problems.

Can anyone suggest a fix, please?
