I expect you're using uw-imapd with mbx support.

The caughtspam folder would need to be created in mbx format before you
deliver anything to it, then, say the pathname is "mail/caughtspam",
you'd
use something like "|dmail +mail/caughtspam" as your delibery rule
instead
of just "caughtspam", and you're change the ":0:" in the exampe to just
":0"
(as dmail handles locking itself, no need to lock on delivery).

ie:

:0:
...
caughtspam

becomes

:0
...
|dmail +mail/caughtspam

eg:

# Then split spam...
:0 fw
| spamassassin -Pa

:0
* ^X-Spam-Status: Yes
* !^Subject:.*Returned mail
| dmail +in/spam
