well personally, that "special little folder" helps keep my life a
little more sane.   i don't mind spam half as much as long as it stays
out of my inbox.

admittedly this does little to solve the root of the problem, but it at
least allows me to concentrate on things other than the fact that my
inbox has 15 spam messages in it :>  i still can send a LART if i feel
like it (or just delete the message if i don't have the energy).

i'd love to reject spam outright, but i have yet to see a system that
doesn't have at least some amount of false positives.

also, those of us who receive messages from customers, spam reports, and
other things that are likely to trigger a spam filter don't necessarily
have the luxury of simply rejecting everything.
