gcc on the sparc needs help with variables it thinks are 
unitialized, but are not.

                                INITIALIZE(ktime);
+                               ktime = 0; /* XXX: gcc */

The #define GNUC_or_lint and #ifdef GNUC_or_lint in time/private.h 
should have made it so INITIALIZE(ktime) was enough.
