I went through this problem too.
I changed the server.xml config in tomcat, and set the maxHttpHeaderSize
field to 100000.
<Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
URIEncoding="UTF-8"
*maxHttpHeaderSize="100000"*
connectionTimeout="20000"
redirectPort="8443" />
If Solr is running on another app server, search for a configuration like
this.
