Hi Tilman,

Crossref has been a strong supporter of a number of initiatives within the
community over the last year, including the Wikipedia Library and
sponsoring WikiCite https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiCite_2016 . Also,
we are one of the biggest referrers to DOI -- in that the Wikipedia
communities have decided to use it as a major identifier within both
Wikipedia and WikiData.

I would think they are already part of our community -- or a least a well
used part of our research ecosystem.
